Hi, I am Mr. Walker, welcome to my blog. I think it's important for you to know about me because I will be with your student a lot in the up-coming year. Being a father myself I want to know about the who, what, where, when, why's of my daughter's teachers.
My teaching philosophy is simple, kids really need to be kids, and all kids have a right to learn, create, and perform. I am wacky at times and love it when kids say I am weird! Because as an adult in their lives right now you are one of two things, "Boring" or you are "Weird". I like the latter. I like that kids feel free to be themselves and to be creative in my room and we have a lot of discussions on a variety of topics. Respect and personal responsibility are very important to me and I want to prepare them to be good citizens, students and life long learners.
I love to work with kids and have done so for over twenty years now. Prior to teaching in PPS I worked in Clackamas County for six years with children with severe emotional disturbance and mental illness.This work was very difficult but super rewarding and really enjoyed working with kids of diverse backgrounds and home lives.
I grew up in Milwaukie, Oregon, home of the Fighting Milwaukie Mustangs and I am a graduate of the University of Oregon. I am a huge Trailblazer fan and love movies of all kinds. I also love Science Fiction and Fantasy books. I love to read and write and will hopefully brainwash your student to love it too.Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have about anything.
